Happy 2009

Goodbye 2008 and welcome 2009! At the beginning of 2009, we will plan a lot of resolutions to achieve. Some are new activities while some are those not able to finish on last year and therefore hope can finish it in this year.

I started this blog few weeks before the end of 2008. Many of my friends asked me why I created such serious blog ->energy savings. Or why suddenly have the inspiration to start energy savings? Our mind is so random and I think many amazing ideas come out at random as well. The event that inspired me to start writing this blog, mostly due to the global recession, the worst compared to the history. In these tough periods, there is nothing you can do other than savings. Other than cutting your daily expenses, there are a lot of saving method that bring benefits to you and also our earth. Energy savings is one of it which we can practice it immediately with no cost.

To all my friends: We are going to graduate, wishing all of us have a good prospect.

To all my readers: Thanks for reading my blog and share your valued opinions. I will continue writing for more and your continual support is very much appreciated. Besides, I will try to make my blog lively, rather than just provide fact :p

Happy New Year. Hope 2009 will be better than 2008.

Power Saver

Have you came across this words --> POWER SAVER. Recently, this Power Saver is mushrooming all over the market especially after Tenaga National Berhad (TNB) has introduced new electricity tariff structure effective 1 July 2008. Therefore, I started gather information about it.

To make it simple, "Power Saver" is a device that can save your monthly electrical bill. The coming question would be "how it works"? The device can stabilize the incoming voltage and hence provide safety protection to your home electronic appliances. There is one important fact that you may not know: from the electricity provided , only about 78% of it is being used effectively while the remain 22% has been wasted to loads. So, the purpose of this invention is to increase the effectiveness of electricity usage as high as possible.

Of course, there is a theory behind the "Power Saver" and this is the point that convinced me, as an engineering student. The important key word that make the device works is "power factor" and this word means a lot to me. Anyways, I am not going to write out the theory because it is boring and it can be found by typing "power saver" on the search bar above or any other search engine.

There are many different type of power saver available in the market and you may not know which to decide. So among the products that I have searched, I would recommend this power saver (the image comes by courtesy of http://www.drkoolsaver.com/). You may noticed this is the website that I always recommend. Compared with other , this website convinced me a lot because it provides not only the product information, it also shares a lot of energy saving tips which align with the title of my blog. This shows that it also concerns on our earth while promoting its products.

There are a few advantages (mentioned on the website) upon this product that make me feel worth to try. I will not quote the price here. Therefore, any queries on the "Power Saver", please try to approach them.

If anyone of you have tried this product, please feel free to share your opinions here and it is much appreciated.

Tips of the day!

According to the website, the power saver can save your electricity up to 25%. If you can save your electricity, it means that you can save your money as well. For your information, it needs a lot of fuel to generate electricity (this is why the TNB increase the charges of usage). Therefore, the more electricity you save, the less fuel to use!

"The day the earth stood still"

"The day the earth stood still" ... Last week, I went to a nearby cinema and watched this movie. Initially, I was attracted by the title which for me, it means that the day when the earth stop rotating (is there any other ways of intepreting this title on first sight?). Secondly it was because of Keanu Reeves, whom I like very much.

In the movie, he, as an alien (named Klaatu) claim that he is "a friend to the earth". Note that he does not say he is "a friend to mankind". Due to the impending global crisis, he is going to destroy mankind and all the buildings in order to save the earth because there are not much planets that can have creatures. The renowned scientist has to convince him to give chance to mankind.

Rather than sharing or commenting the quality of this movie, the purpose of this blog is about sharing the message behind the movie. Are we the friend of the earth? Obviously, the movie want to show that the earth is in crisis and in fact this is what happen to our earth now. If this condition persists and if no further action taken to change it, the earth is going to destroy and human being will come to end fo the world.

Perhaps, you would say there is nothing we can do and contribution by small group of us has no effect in the effort of saving the earth. In fact, we can do a lot of things to save our earth. Energy saving can be one of the efforts that we can do.

Why? -> Energy waste is polluting our earth.
How? -> The simplest example is , the less fuel you use, the longer the life of the earth (while waiting the invention of transport that does not require fuel!!).

We should understand that our earth is in crisis now. It can be noticed from the disaster that happened around us and the extreme weather that we faced everyday. Although the effort is so tiny, we still need to do it and we should promote it to our friends, family, colleague and etc. as well. For sure there are other efforts that help to save the earth like reuse, recycle ... The earth will not "stood still" for more than 500 years if everyone of us taking the effort NOW!

Energy Saving Tips

Unavoidable, we need to spend money everyday. We spend money when we use water, electricity, fuel and etc. So, save money looks like a “mission” that is much easier said than done. In fact, rather than “save money”, we can spend less money!

Recently, I am trying to find some ways to spend less money (implicitly it means save money too!) in order to survive in this economy recession period. I have searched many useful website and got some advices from few experienced peoples for money saving, they told me one important fact which we always take it for granted ->

SAVE ENERGY = SAVE MONEY

At here I would like to share a useful tip on energy saving.

I think most of us have this habit: We do not turn off our computer when we were away (whether in a minute or few hours). The electricity still running, we are wasting energy! If really want to save money, please do turn off your monitor if you are away from your PC or shut down your PC if you do not use it for few hours. Note that “screen saver” only helps you to protect your monitor’s screen, but it still consumes power. By doing this, you really can save a lot of power and reduce your monthly electrical bills.

Among the websites that I have studied, I will highly recommend this website (http://www.drkoolsaver.com/) to you. This website consolidates a lot of energy saving tips from many websites and experiences of others. It also provides a lot of useful link and you can share your saving tips with them too.

Don’t wait till tomorrow, just try it now! Let “turn off your PC” as your first step in energy saving or equivalently money saving. Next time, I will share more energy saving tips with all of you!
